Oakhurst is easily one of the most charming and unique neighborhoods in Atlanta’s intown suburbs. But with its historic character, a lot of the 1920s bungalows can start to feel a little similar. This homeowner loved the size, location and large lot, but the finishes didn’t fit their style, and they wanted a more sensible, modern and spacious layout.

What started as a straightforward renovation became a work of art over time as the homeowner, design team and builder worked together to positively impact and enhance every bit of the home. The original front of the home retains much of its layout and massing, but once you enter the dining, kitchen and family room the house opens up and fills with light. The primary suite on the main, tack room, mudroom and laundry finish out the first floor.

Upstairs an addition above the old porch attic allowed for a second family space and a smaller addition at the front took advantage of just enough attic to create a new bathroom. With the original two bedrooms and bathroom, the second story is now a 2bed/2bath plus loft and family room.
