Transitional Home Addition in Penrose

This South Arlington home was a long-time rental well past its prime and needed a significant renovation. The owners wanted space for their family to grow with plenty of room for entertaining.

With lot restrictions in place, we strategically expanded the footprint by building onto the left side and adding a full second story. To maximize functionality, we underpinned the basement, raising the ceiling height to 8.5 feet, while increasing the first- and second-floor walls to 9 feet—bringing the proportions in line with new construction standards. The enclosed front porch was carefully restored to its original charm and enhanced with slate flooring and sleek metal railings.

Inside, thoughtful details set this home apart. A butler’s pantry, wine room, and custom finishes add character, while the layout provides everything today’s families need: five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a spacious great room, mudroom, home gym, and more.
