Careers in Construction Month (CICM) is a nationwide campaign held every October to increase public awareness of construction careers, inspire the next generation of craft professionals, and showcase the positive impact a fulfilling career in construction can have on individuals and communities. At Alair Homes, we’re excited to celebrate the dedicated professionals who make our projects successful. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Sydney Contant, one of our amazing Project Managers at Alair Marietta.
Meet Sydney Contant
Sydney has been on a mission to prove herself in the construction industry from the very beginning. Starting with hands-on training as an apprentice carpenter, she went on to earn her certification from NARI. Now, as a project manager, Sydney has worked tirelessly to gain the respect of clients and trade partners alike.
A Rising Star
We’re proud to announce that Sydney was named one of the 2023 Rising Stars Top 10 by My Home Improvement of Atlanta (@myhomeimprovementatl). This honor is a testament to her hard work and exceptional contributions to the field.
Sydney’s Advice and Encouragement
What encouragement can you offer other women facing challenges in this industry?
“Don’t give up! We are more accepted in the field today than we were in the recent past, but we still face challenges our male co-workers don’t. I try to take it all with a grain of salt and stay confident that my experience and education make me just as capable—if not more—than anyone else on the job site.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
“When I was starting out, an experienced co-worker told me to seek out the lead professional and carefully watch what they were doing. Then, next time, take the tool from their hand and do it myself.”
Who do you look to for motivation?
“My son is my main motivation. He’s only four, but he already understands what I do. He loves it when I join him to play with his building blocks and toy hammer.”
What should I know before a remodel?
“It helps to be flexible. There are almost always unforeseen situations on every project, but we know how to come up with solutions to get the job done.”
