A fun family purchased their 1920s home with a great-sized kitchen that completely lacked color, personality, or smart use of the available space. Basic white cabinets with antiquated countertops needed to go—fast. But great original windows, excellent ceiling height, and a good area were the right starting points for a great design.
The design stayed within the existing footprint with a similar appliance layout, but the space was enlivened with color and custom cabinetry. The large island gained smart storage and ditched seating. While brick tile from the countertop to the ceiling adds texture and detail without overwhelming.
The bold teal cabinet palette is balanced with textured brick that has a schmear of white to soften the edges. Black and gold plumbing fixtures, gold hardware in the cabinets and on the hood, and touches of original stain on the windows bring everything together.
