You may be looking around your home and wondering, what it would take to make some updates? More specifically, how much would it cost and how long would it take? Here at Alair Homes, we want to make sure you get answers to all of your remodeling questions.
There are many things to keep in mind that could affect the timeline and cost of your remodel. Is it a cosmetic or structural project? Will a building permit be required? How big is the area that needs work? Does it involve interior or exterior work? These are just a few of the questions that would need to be answered.
If the work is cosmetic, chances are you shouldn’t need a building permit; but if the job requires structural changes, a building permit could most likely be required. If you need to pull a building permit, there’s a good chance you’ll need plans too. Getting plans drawn, printed and ready for plan review will depend solely on the architect’s and structural engineer’s schedules. The time it takes to pull a building permit will depend on how busy your city’s department is.
Is it a large area or a small area? Needless to say, remodeling a small bathroom will take less time than remodeling your kitchen. Changing tile and updating your vanity may take less time than moving plumbing and installing all-new cabinets. Also, keep in mind that the desired quality of material to be used will cause price to go up or down, as well as the brand of fixtures you choose to be installed. If any of these items are being ordered or specially made, delivery times can take some time which may prolong the timeline.
Also something to bear in mind is if your project requires exterior work, there is always the possibility of delays due to weather.
While we would love to make things easy for you and tell you how much your project could cost and how long it will take to complete- as you can see, it’s next to impossible to do off-hand, without these questions being answered. But if you contact Alair Homes, we’d be happy to discuss your specific project in detail and give you a personalized competitive quote with an estimated timeline it should take to complete. Of course, we’re also here to answer any other questions you may have.
We look forward to hearing from you.
