From the earliest stages of design through final execution, the homeowners shared what it meant to work with Alair Homes. Their perspective was consistent: a process defined by clarity, collaboration, and a level of attention that made them feel like a true priority every step of the way.

“I just always felt like we were the only build that they had to worry about,”

Homeowner, Donna Specht

What makes this home especially compelling is the intention behind it. Designed as a net zero residence, performance was not an afterthought, it was a guiding principle from day one. During our media day alongside architect Dave Jenkins, we explored the level of planning required to create a home that balances architectural vision with long-term efficiency and sustainability.

For these homeowners, who split their time between Florida and Colorado, the home needed to function seamlessly, even while unoccupied for extended periods. That requirement influenced nearly every decision, from building systems to material selections, ensuring the home could operate intelligently and efficiently year-round.

  • Solar panels integrated into the roof play a key role in supporting the home’s energy goals, helping offset consumption while working in tandem with highly efficient mechanical systems. Inside the home, unique air duct configurations were thoughtfully designed to optimize airflow, maintain consistent comfort, and reduce unnecessary energy use—an often overlooked but critical component of high-performance homes.
  • Beyond the systems behind the walls, the lifestyle this home supports is just as intentional. The outdoor spaces were designed not only for relaxation, but for productivity and connection to the environment. The homeowners actively grow food, flowers, and plantings on the property, creating a landscape that contributes to both sustainability and daily living. It’s a natural extension of the home’s overall philosophy; one that values efficiency, independence, and thoughtful use of resources.

Through detailed pre-planning and a shared vision between client, architect, and builder, that philosophy was fully realized. Every layer of the home was approached with purpose, ensuring it performs as beautifully as it lives.

With Dave Jenkins leading the architectural vision and the Alair Homes Casey Key team guiding the build, this project stands as a strong example of what’s possible when performance and design are considered in tandem; and when the client experience remains at the center throughout.
