A Passion for Kitchens
Q: Can you share the story of how Creative Kitchens got started here in Brandon?
Creative Kitchens was founded in Killarney, Manitoba, by Vern Harms, who has been building cabinets since 1985. Guided by a passion for quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction, the company has grown in size and experience over the years.
In 2018, Vern and Marlene’s daughter and son in law, Phil and Lisa Quiring, took over the business and continue to run it just like it was. Vern is still involved in the day-to-day operations and is continuing to pass down his knowledge of the trade. Lisa has been in the industry for over 20 years and grew up in the business, so this was an easy transition for her. Phil caught on to installing and building quite quickly and has been providing quality installation for Creative Kitchens since 2015. Phil and Lisa are excited to be able to keep Creative Kitchens in the family and continue to provide customers with the same great quality, service and friendship that it always has.
On October 31, 2023, the Killarney location closed. Creative Kitchens held the grand opening for their new showroom at Brandon, Manitoba on November 17, 2023. The showroom is located 8 miles south of Brandon, Manitoba in a high-profile location on the west side of Highway 10.

We understand how important the kitchen is to your home and family so we strive to give you the customized solutions you need to create a functional and beautiful kitchen.

Q: What types of projects do you specialize in, and what makes your work unique?
We don’t limit ourselves to one specific area but anything related to cabinetry and countertops. Over the years, we’ve transformed a wide variety of spaces, including kitchens, bathrooms, closets, man caves, glamping domes, commercial properties, bars, and so much more!
Q: Can you tell us about a favorite project you’ve completed with Alair Homes?
We partnered with Alair on a stunning new home in the Clear Lake area. Blending modern design with the warmth of a mountain-style home, it’s a unique style that truly stands out.
Design Meets Function
Q: How do you balance beauty and functionality when creating custom kitchen spaces?
We find the perfect balance by putting efficiency at the heart of every design. We start with functional layouts, practical storage solutions, and durable materials as the foundation, then layer in finishes, lighting, and creative details that bring beauty and personality into the space.
Q: What kitchen design trends are you seeing right now that excite you most?
Homeowners are starting to ask for more color in their design and we couldn’t be more excited! We can’t wait to see which shades make their way into the spotlight next.

Q: How do you collaborate with builders, designers, and homeowners during the process?
We collaborate closely with builders, designers, and homeowners by keeping communication open and transparent from start to finish. With builders, we focus on timelines, installation requirements, and technical details to ensure cabinetry integrates seamlessly into the overall construction. With designers, we try to align cabinetry style, finishes, and functionality with the general design vision. And with homeowners, we guide them through layout options and custom features so their space reflects both their lifestyle and personality. By balancing technical expertise with creative input, we help bring everyone’s ideas together into a cohesive, functional, and beautiful finished kitchen.
Q: Can you walk us through your typical process, from the first meeting to the final installation?
We try our best to ensure the entire process as seamless as possible. It begins with an initial consultation where we sit down with the homeowner, builder, or designer to understand the vision, needs and budget. The next meeting focuses on fine tuning the details, ensuring the layout works perfectly, every cabinet is functional, and guiding clients through finish selections. Throughout, we explore ways to infuse their personality into the design, creating a kitchen that feels truly their own.
Once the design is finalized, we order the cabinetry and all components required to bring the design to life. While we wait for the cabinetry to arrive, we stay in close communication with builders and designers to ensure everything aligns with the overall project timeline. Finally, our installation team brings the design to life, making sure every detail is executed perfectly. The end result is a space that’s not only beautiful but also built to last.
